1. Cleaning and Dusting
-
Use a soft, dry cloth: Use a clean, soft cloth (such as microfiber) or a light feather duster to regularly remove dust from the surface of the painting or frame.
-
Avoid water and chemicals: Never use water, glass cleaners, or any other chemicals to clean printed or canvas paintings, as moisture may cause damage to the colors, warping of the canvas, or damage to the internal wood.
-
Woven fabrics (Gobelin): If the painting is made of woven fabric, it is best to clean it gently using a vacuum cleaner brush on low suction; avoid washing it with water except in extreme necessity and only by hand.
2. Hanging Location and Environment
-
Keep away from direct sunlight: Be sure to hang paintings in places away from direct sunlight for long periods, as ultraviolet rays cause colors to fade and lose their vibrancy over time.
-
Avoid humidity and high heat: Be careful not to hang paintings in areas exposed to high humidity or significant temperature fluctuations (such as poorly ventilated bathrooms or in direct proximity to heating sources), as moisture causes wood damage or loosening of the stretched canvas.
3. Handling and Hanging
-
Secure installation: Ensure you use nails and wall plugs appropriate for the weight of the wall and the size of the artwork to guarantee it is hung securely and prevented from falling.
-
Method of carrying: When moving or changing the location of any painting, always ensure you hold it by the wooden frame or the main structure, and avoid direct pressure on the center of the stretched canvas so that it does not become stretched or torn.
